Are you scared of the dental office? Do you hate the sound of dental drills and the feeling of small tools poking and prodding you? If so, Dr. Robert A. McCulla is happy to offer sedation dentistry in Turlock, California, to help you feel relaxed and comfortable at Turlock Dental Care.
There are many types of sedation available in the dental field, which include:
- Oral Sedation: This type of sedation is in the form of a pill. You will take this pill prior to your appointment and it will make you feel drowsy and calm. This sedative is similar to Valium. When you use this sedative, we suggest having a ride to and from our office to ensure your safety.
- Nitrous Oxide Sedation: This type of sedation is also known as laughing gas. The sedative is mixed with oxygen and is inhaled through the nose. At your appointment, your dentist will place a small mask over your nose and will ask you to deeply inhale for a few minutes. As time passes by, you will begin to feel lightheaded and tingly. You will not fall asleep while you use this sedative and you will stay alert and responsive. This sedative wears off quickly and does not require you to have a ride home from the dental office.
- IV Sedation: This type of sedation is transferred through an IV and is inserted directly into the vein. This allows the sedative to take effect quickly and it gives your dentist the control he needs to provide the accurate amount of sedative.
